How to stop snacking on sweet stuff

Someone just asked me this, and I thought I’d post my answer in case it helps other people!

hmmm I wrote this earlier, snacking on fruit (like grapes, strawberries, raspberries, oranges, peaches, nectarines, watermelon, etc etc whatever your favorites are) is a good alternative. If you have problems with self control, then try just buying none of the stuff you snack on! sometimes if i want something salty, I’ll just eat straight salt… so maybe if you want something sweet take a teaspoon of sugar/maple syrup/honey/agave nectar and eat that??? kind of weird but it works for me!

also there’s tons of stuff that’s sweetened with fake sugar (stevia, aspartame etc) that you can find in the grocery store. you might want to try that!

How to Conquer Cravings
Scans from books/magazines are always hard to read, so I’ve retyped this here:

Cravings are largely preventable and if they do strike, they can be overcome. If you suffer from occasional (or constant) food cravings, the following guide will help you kick those cravings to the curb.

  1. Determine the source of your craving and get to the root of it
Have you eaten balanced meals including one or two servings of starchy complex carbohydrates that day? If you aren’t feeling satisfied by your meals, it might cause you to crave other foods.
Are you simply thirsty? It’s common to mistake thirst for hunger. Try quenching your craving with a tall glass of water or steaming mug of herbal tea.
Do you always crave chocolate at that time of the month? Sometimes it’s best to listen to your body and give it what it wants, so as long as you practice portion control and don’t make it an everyday (or even every week) habit.
  2. Distract yourself
Close the kitchen and try any of the following activities:
    Go for a walk
Talk to a friend on the phone
Paint your nails (you can’t eat while your nails are wet!)
    Take a bath
    Garden
    Hit the gym
Visit The Kitchen Table  vent about your craving by posting a blog entry and look at other members’ stories and photos for motivation.
  3. Satisfy your craving in a Clean way
Craving sweets? Have fresh berries or a handful of unsweetened dried fruits.
Craving salt? Try unbuttered, air-popped popcorn, homemade baked pita chips and salsa or a handful of nuts.

You can turn practically any meal into a Clean one. If your favorite meal is steak and mashed potatoes, make it Clean by using a lean cut of meat and potatoes made with unsweetened almond milk or stock instead of butter. If you crave pizza (during your weight maintenance plan), load up a whole grain pita with tomatoes, fresh veggies, lean meats and a small amount of cheese. Making your old favorites Clean will satisfy your cravings without derailing your progress.

Can’t kick the sugary foods?

Try going 2 hours without eating junky sugary food, then try 4 hours, then try 8 hours, then try a day, two days, then a week. Build up to it!

Stop buying bad food is the next best step. Eat cherries, peaches, nectarines, strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries instead. They’re all in season, fucking delicious, and good for you!

Reward yourself with nail polish, hair clips, accessories, $5, a tv show, whatever you like that isn’t food!

Anonymous asked: Hi, was wondering if you could give me some advice on this! And thanks so much for replying to all of your followers, your blog really inspires me! So my question is, what do you do when you get cravings? I know it might sound like a really basic question but I always get cravings for unhealthy food, even when I feel really full! It makes eating healthily really difficult, especially because sometimes instead I'll binge on fruit/yoghurt and feel just as bad. Thankyou so much if you reply xx

Whenever I get cravings I give into them like 80% of the time, but the thing is I eat a small amount. For example, I’m eating popcorn right now cuz I want something salty, but it’s one of those small bags so it’s only 130 cals. If its ice cream, I’ll dig into it while standing in front of the freezer so I’ll take 2 or 3 spoonfuls and be done (also I get really cold). I’ll have one teeny piece of really dark chocolate if I want it, too.

For the 20% of the time that I don’t give in, I’ll drink flavored tea or green tea instead. I generally forget about my cravings later.

Some other tips are to eliminate all bad food from your house (no way I’m doing that, I trust my self control) and to drink water or tea to satisfy those urges.

If your problem is bingeing I can’t really help, you should talk to a professional or doctor. There are tons of recovering ED blogs that will have much better advice for you, as well! Next time you’re craving something, message me and I’ll suggest an alternative :)

15 CALORIE Frozen Whipped Cream Bites!

If you LOVE ice cream like I do, you will absolutely love these 15 calorie treats.
A cup of ice cream can have over 330 calories, while the whole can of whipped cream has about 290!

  1. Buy lightly sweetened whipped cream in a can (look at the ingredients to see if it’s truly just cream)
  2. Make little swirls on a baking sheet, and pop in the freezer for at least 2 hours.
  3. I piped these into cupcake papers which made them take up less space.
  4. Every time you get an ice cream craving pop one of these in your mouth!
