i could be wrong on this, but the reason i think eating a lot of calories at night may be bad is because your body is just going to sleep and barely using any energy, so it will be storing it as fat
I don’t think this is true. You burn calories when you sleep too…
I did a little googling:
So, to settle the debate, you are correct that late-night calories won’t change your metabolism or magically count more than calories eaten during the day. However, limiting late-night meals and snacks may be an effective weight management strategy for some because it helps them to control their overall calorie intake.
In the end, we think it’s best to move past the minutia of studying mice and monkeys to figure out if it’s a good idea to eat that sandwich at 2AM. If you’re doing everything else right, eating well and with lots of variety, in moderation, and working out, these are the kinds of debates you can start to forget about.
Either way, I wouldn’t feel too guilty about eating late if your body needs those calories!
Do you think it's bad to eat at night? I just ate lentil soup (which basically has lentils and EVERYTHING vegetables). It's 9:44 here.
No no no no no!! The only reason why people say not to eat at night is that you’re adding an extra meal! If your last meal is at night that’s fine. Your body will digest this and store it for later when you wake up. I just ate dinner and we’re in the same time zone! Don’t worry about it too much, I think its the calories in/calories out that make the biggest difference.
If anyone else knows otherwise please let me know!
What are some good ways of getting rid of cellulite?
I found this:
There is only one real way to combat cellulite, and we highlighted it in this article right here. You need to exercise, to reduce the amount of fat on your body, and to build lean muscle (oh, and to do that, you also need to eat right, too).
agreed, the weight number isn't all that important. i saw a before and after pic of someone where the difference was only 9 pounds numerically, but visually she looked SO different
if you're doing it the healthy way, you will put on lbs of muscle, and you will lose lbs of fat, just the way it works
Yes! That’s what I tell myself too - I hate seeing only 4 pounds difference but I feel a world different because I’ve gained muscle. Thanks for the message :)
Hi! So I was wondering what your favorite types of cardio work are. I run a lot and I don't have a gym membership so I can't really think of too many other options for cardio work. Any suggestions? :)
Haha I wish I could give you a better answer but I’m a runner & always will be! I’m not sure if pilates counts as cardio but I love it - find a Groupon/Living Social deal for a pilates class near you and try it out! (Go to yipit.com it shows all the deals in your area)
As for general suggestions: dancing, skiing, skating, jump rope, hula hooping, running, jumping jacks, elliptical, any sport like soccer, volleyball etc
do you know anything about possible risks of running for older people? As in, since running is high impact, is it not advised for those of us on the, er, wrong side of 45? I have no heart issues, but, in particular I wonder if my ankles and knees are up to it, so for the last few months I've been doing just walking for my cardio. Am I just being paranoid?
No, sorry! I’d suggest a slow jog if you feel up to it, and immediately stop if you feel any pain. The safest bet would be to talk to your doctor.
Okay, here's a question for you. I get really crazy peanutbutter/chocolate cravings. Ive found a way to sooth the chocolate cravings with cocoa, but I cant think of a way to have a low-calorie way to satisfy my peanutbutter cravings. ideas?
I have the same problem too, but I’ve found the best solution is just to give in!! Find the smallest spoon in your kitchen and load it up and keep the PB in your mouth for as looonng as possible so you can savor it! Then you’re done with the minimal amount of calorie damage!
hi, uhm i tend to be a bored eater. I eat when I'm bored but I don't eat junk, i tend to binge on fruit. I know it's bad but I can't help it, do you have any suggestions?
!?!??! I see no problem with fruit binges? I don’t know how much fruit you eat but I’m known to eat a pound of strawberries or blueberries at a time :) If you can’t help it, try eating melon (they’re filling & low calorie).
What advice would you give to a total fitness beginner? O:
Start walking! Every day! With your dog, with your neighbors dog, with your friend, whatever. Then start jogging. It’s a slow process but take it gradually and don’t ever, ever give up! Grab some weights (3-5 lb) too and tone up your arms, easiest is bicep curls & see where that takes you. Maybe go to the nearest YMCA a few times and subtly see what other people are doing so you can learn some new stuff!
Every morning I wake up with my stomach feeling horrible, kind of like bad hunger pains but I'm not sure. I'm eating, and I think getting enough calories (I don't count them), but I was wondering if there was a particular nutrient I was missing or a snack I could eat before bed to combat this feeling.
I think I know what you mean - I sometimes get that feeling when I eat dinner early (around 6ish). It’s like a gnawing, empty feeling? Does it go away when you have breakfast? I think it’s just because you haven’t eaten in a while. Try eating more carbs for dinner or eating a little bit later (that saying that eating after 8pm makes you gain weight is totally false). Hope this helps!
Hay what are really good cardio workouts to burn a lot of fat?
Heyyy anything that gets your heart pumping! Dancing, skiing, skating, jump rope, hula hooping, running, jumping jacks, elliptical… Personally I hate all of those and I just stick to running and hiking! Try lots of different ones to see what you enjoy the most!
Hey(: You are my ultimate inspiration. I spent hours looking at this and then got off my lazy ass and went running. Thank you so much for inspiring me :) And I just have this question, I@m usually stuck at home, what are things I can do at home to get healthy ? :)
Hi! Thanks so much that means a lot to me! Good job going on a run that’s awesome to hear.
Being stuck at home is the perfect excuse to get healthy - changing your eating habits for the better & exercising more often will do the trick. I’m not sure if you live with your parents, but try to go grocery shopping with them and make them buy whole grains, tons of fruits & veggies, and lean cuts of meat (pork tenderloin, chicken breast, lean beef). When I was stuck at home, I learned to cook really well and all my friends were constantly coming over to eat what I made - and don’t worry it was healthy food! Check out foodgawker for tons of recipes, but try to weed out the healthy ones and not the desserts!!!
As for exercise, you can always go on a run & switch it up by doing intervals or do an at-home workout video like P90X, Insanity or Pop Pilates (which you can find for free on the internet).
Hopefully this helps, feel free to ask more specific questions! Good luck!
oh my gawd. thank you!
what's your height then?
I'm currently 120 and 5' 4.5 but i've been stuck in a plateau for x months now...
I’m 5’5.5” - gotta add the .5” there! I haven’t hit a plateau because I’m not counting pounds etc I’m just doing it by how I feel about how I perceive my body. I’d suggest shocking your body by switching up your routine somehow, either starting a different workout (different type of cardio) or reassessing your intake! Hopefully that helps :)
i must say you are mighty fit girlie!. i was wondering what were your starting stats?
Wow thanks :)
I’m not sure what you mean about stats, but when I decided to lose weight & get fit I was around 122 lbs? That’s all I know.. sorry! I haven’t had access to a scale but I will tomorrow so I’ll let you know about my progress!
